Forget Baby Einstein, Barney and the Doodlebops; get your whole family into music with these titles you can all enjoy.
Anything Dan Zanes – Okay, Dan Zanes is BY FAR my favorite children’s artists. His music is appealing to the whole family and his songs are smart rather than being annoying or repetitive. The songs include old classics like Down in the Valley and What a Wonderful World (Lou Reed joins in for this one) and ones you have never heard like House Party Time and Jump Up . Instead of a conventional CD case his albums come wrapped in a board book with beautiful illustrations… very nice.
Putumayo Kids – If you are looking to introduce the sounds of the world to your child look no further than Putumayo. The children’s collection includes albums from Senegal to Australia. My kids enjoy Reggae Playground that includes artists from Hawaii, Indonesia, Jamaica even Morocco.
If you are looking for something more punk-pop check out Audra Rocks. This all parent band will have you jumping and rocking to Avril Lavigne style tunes. The Terrible Twos can also be included on this list. With music reminiscent of Death Cab for Cutie people in the car next to you would never guess you are rocking out to album made for the under 5 crowd.
Now you have no excuse to listen to anymore hokey children’s music, that is unless you like big purple dinosaurs with annoying voices.
I’m a total sucker for fun and functional baby gear so when I came across Zosephine ’s line of diaper bags I really wanted to share them with you. Not only are they unique in style and, like they say, “definitely not cutsie-pink”, the bags really don’t scream out diaper bag when you are wearing it. This is a bag that will be in use well beyond the toddler years.
